Meaning: The Hermit is the ninth Tarot card. It is therefore associated with number 9, which symbolizes the manifestation of number 3 (the number of the Spirit) on the three cabalistic planes of existence: spiritual, psychic, and biological. It is the number of inspiration, classical arts and harmonious relationships, for nine are the muses which in Greek mythology represent the totality of human knowledge.

From an astrological perspective, it is associated with Virgo, ruled by the planet Mercury (analytical and methodical) and Saturn, which governs Time: “learning to wait”. This Arcana represents the Principle of Introspection, of moving inwards. In human terms, it stands for self-analysis. The Hermit is the one who seeks, first and foremost, to know himself, moving away from the bustle of worldly existence, the superfluous, unconscious and futile aspects of human life. There is no understanding without experience, and the Hermit understands this. The Hermit studies himself. He lives in the world, but his attention is mostly turned inwards. The Hermit often has the need to heal an inner wound by finding isolation and peace, in order to face life in a more balanced and rational manner.

With regard to Love, the Hermit represents a retreat, a cooling in the relationship, or a lack of communication between the couple. This arcana invites us to think before acting.

With regard to Work, it is associated with studying and research.

With regard to Health, knees and back pain create many problems. Bones, especially the spine, and teeth are weak spots that require attention.
