Meaning: The Emperor is the fourth Tarot card. It is therefore associated with number 4, which symbolizes the order of all things. It represents solid, tangible, and manifested states. Finally, it represents the human being comprised of four pivotal aspects: spiritual and energetic being; intellect; emotional body; and physical body.

From an astrological perspective, it is associated with Aries, which governs the body and the mind. It is ruled by the planet Mars, the god of War, and has the Sun in Capricorn. The Emperor represents the Universal Male Principle as manifested in matter. He represents the concrete, material and solid Universe. This arcana represents the human being who plants. It could do nothing without nature, but it does something more than nature. With the Emperor comes progress, work, culture, perfection. While the Empress represents what is given by Nature, the Emperor represents what we do with what we have been given, assuming the responsibility for our own lives.
