Patroness of the Singles – Prayer to Blessed Emelina

Ever heard of Blessed Emelina?

Born in France in the twelfth century, Emelina was a devout soul who deeply desired to do God’s will. She was guided to the Cistercian Abbey of Boulancourt in Longeville, France, but was unable to enter the religious community.

Nevertheless, she lived a solitary life in the vicinity of the abbey and followed the Cistercian rule as she could. She had a life of deep prayer, marked by fasting and sacrifices. Pilgrims from the area flocked to Emelina for spiritual guidance. Her ability to accurately predict future events made her famous. Humility marked her interaction with everyone, and she never used her heavenly gifts for her own benefit.

Since she has never married or entered in any religious community, blessed Emelina is known as the patron saint of single women.

Here is a prayer for a single person who wants to recognize the presence of God in their lives and ask Him for guidance along their path:

Patroness of the Singles – Prayer to Blessed Emelina:

“Everlasting God,

from the womb of my mother

the Lord knows me and loves me

beyond what I can imagine.

I urge you to give me strength to live a Holy life,

may your hand guide my decisions

and may your mercy be extended

when I seek my own glory,

instead of yours.

I ask you the wisdom to recognize your will for me,

and, like Our Holy Mother,

I ask you the strength to say ‘yes’.

May I find you in all the people I meet,

and may my life be blessed with your kindness and love

so that all people will be guided to You

through Jesus, your Son,

who is the Lord, for ever and ever.

Amen.”
